Genetic Resources Institute (GRE) of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has held a commemorative event connected with the 27th anniversary of 20th January tragedy.
Addressing the event, a chair of the Trade union organization of the institute, doctor of philosophy in Biology Hamlet Sadigov shared bitter memories, which he witnessed on January 20th 1990. He provided a detailed insight into the act of terror, which the former Soviet Army committed against the Azerbaijani nation over the night from 19th to 20th January 1990.
He emphasized that on that day heroes of our nation were murdered by occupants – 132 people died and more than 700 Azerbaijani citizens were injured. Being a tragedy, this date became the beginning of independence of Azerbaijan.
At the end, the event featured demonstration of the film consisting of numerous photos reflecting the event of January 1990 in Azerbaijan.
