Director of Genetic Resources Institute (GRE) of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), corresponding member of ANAS Dr.Zeynal Akparov has received a Leading Specialist of the Department of Genetic Resources of International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) Dr. Mohammad Fawzi Navar and well-known specialist on documenting Plant Genetic Resources (PGR), Dr. Yan Konopka from Poland.
The purpose of the meeting co-organised by the International Trust Fund on the PGR was an update of the infrastructure information base on the PGR and gene bank database, putting into operation a high quality computer/server granted to the Institute by the Fund and presentation of information system meeting the modern requirements by ICARDA.
During the six day visit, the gueststogether with Chief Specialist of the Department on International relations, information and coordination Ilhama Mirzaliyeva carried out infrastructure changes on the old system for improvement and connection to the newly created system of the above mentioned base, and implemented works for the transfer to the new system.
The process of transferring information to the new system has already started. This created a good opportunity for further development of database of the National Gene bank through the state-of-the-art information technologies and integration to the world networks.
On the sidelines of the visit, ICARDA granted to the GRI’s National Gene bank special tablet computer, barcode printer and scanner to conduct characterization data of field plants.
