A Genetic Resources Institute (GRI) of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has held next internatioanal webinar (seminar via internet).
A scientific employee of the “Human genetics” group of the department of Biotechnology of the GRI Khagani Eynullazadeh made a report called “An evaluation of the DNA methylation as diagnostic biomarker in prostate cancer.
He presented general information about the prostate cancer, factors causing it, clinical manifestations of the decease, several epigenetic and genetik mechanisms.
Eynullazadeh highlighed that the mechanism of creation of all types of cancers including the prostate cancer is very complex.
The epigenetic changes have special importance in the creation of the prostate cancer.
In particular the methylation of the DNA molecule plays important role in the creation of this type of cancer.
The researches held showed the high degree of methylation in around 70 various genes during the prostate cancer. Although this type of cancer has a severe clinical course it can be treated if diagnosed early.
From this point of view the high degree of methylation of specific genes can indicate the cancer of the prostate and this can be used as a biomarker in diagnosting the cancer.
He noted that the main goal in future researches will be to determine the peculiarities of one or several methylated gens during the prostate cancer on the Azerbaijani population.
Khagani Eynullazadeh graduated from the Faculty of Medical Biology of the Azerbaijan State Medical University in 2013 and the same year received a master’s degree in Medical Genetics specialization at the The University of Glasgow in the UK at the expense of the Azerbaijani State Programme.
