Genetic Resources Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences has held a remembrance day dedicated to the 24th anniversary of the memory of Khojaly tragedy victims.
First of all, the memory of victims of the Khojaly tragedy was honoured with one minute of silence.
The event was opened by the deputy director of the Institute on scientific work, ProfessorNaibAminov. He said that Khojalytragedy is one of the bloodiesevents in the history of Azerbaijan.
He told about heavy consequences of this crime – the murder of civilians with special cruelty - committed by the Armenian military units against the Azerbaijani people.
Next address was made by the Chairperson of the trade union organizationof the Institute, doctor of philosophy in Biology Hamlet Sadigov. He told that the Armenian bandit units together with soldiers and officers of the former Soviet Army raze to the ground the city of Khojalyon the night from 25 to 26 February 1992. He noted that the act of genocide and unprecedented atrocities perpetrated by the Armenian occupants with the support of the Soviet regiment No 366 has been recorded in the history of the 20th century as a crime committed not only against Azerbaijani nations, but against the whole mankind.
The event featured demonstration of video about heavy consequences of the genocide.
