Today the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) organized at its main buildinga farewell ceremony with the world famous Azerbaijani scientist, political figure and outstanding representative of Biology and Agriculture sciences in Azerbaijan, honoured worker of science, scientist awarded with the “Sharaf” medal and active member of ANAS Jalal Alirza oglu Aliyev.

The ceremony was attended by the state and government officials, MPs, scientists and workers of culture, representatives of intelligentsia and members of the public.

A wreath on behalf of the President of Azerbaijan Republicwas placed before the body of the deceased scientist. Also the wreaths on behalf of the state organisations and various groups were put around the body of the outstanding scientist.

The memorial service was opened by President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh. He spoke about the efficient scientific activity of the outstanding scientist Jalal Aliyev, and exclusive services of the patriot of big science in developing Biology and Agriculture sciences in our country. 

Akif Alizadeh emphasized that the scientist founded a scientific school and dedicated all his meaning of life to developing Biology and Agriculture. He noted

that more than 65 years of his scientific activity academician Jalal Aliyev dedicated to the study of theoretical basics of agricultural plants and, especially, photosynthetic productivity of the wheat.

The unprecedented achievements and obtained success of the school created by the academician in the sphere of the research of the photosynthesis were highly evaluated by the world scientific community. 

Akif Alizadeh said that the scientific results of the academician in connection with the photosynthesiswere successfully applied in many countries of the world. He highlighted that starting from 1970s through studying the secrets of the photosynthetic activity of the wheat,the scientist held genetic selection works todirect them in the desired direction.

Jalal Aliyev expanded researches in the spheres of physical and chemical biology, especially in Biology and Biophysics. He founded the new research directions in the republic – molecular biology, molecular genetics, biotechnology of genes and cells, mathematical biology and bioinformatics, and considerably developed them.

Based on the molecular researches carried out under his leadership the genome library of wheat was established. Also, in the result of copying the genes with the help of synthesized plasmids, the plant regenerants carrying the resistance gene was obtained.

On this basis was prepared the scheme of clonal multiplication of agricultural plants by using the gene engineering.

 The ANAS President noted that through the initiative of academician Jalal Aliyev more than 300 scientific researchers were prepared. Out of this, the scholar led directly 85 candidates of science and 11 doctors of science himself.

 He highlighted that the rich scientific legacy of outstanding scientist, representative of intelligentsia, modest and sincere person Jalal Aliyev will always live. It will serve Azerbaijani nation and science, and will be passed from one generation to another.

Academicians Ahliman Amiraslanov, Boyukkishi Agayev, Maharram Babayev, corresponding member of ANAS Valida Ali-zade spoke at the farewell party. They told about the rich scientific creativity of the scientist and expressed deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. 

The stressed that academician Jalal Aliyev had undeniable role in making the Academy a scientific temple. He was one of the scholars who created the great scientific school. Jalal Aliyev brought up talented students successfully working in the leading scientific centres and universities both in Azerbaijan and CIS countries, USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Israel and European countries. They bring influence to the Azerbaijani nation.

Corresponding member of ANAS Ibrahim Azizov speaking on behalf of Jalal Aliyev’s students, told about works of the outstanding scientist in recognizing the Azerbaijani science in the world. He highlighted that Jalal Aliyev was a scholar, who could transfer his deep knowledge and rich experience to the next generation of scientists. 

 After the farewell ceremony, the deceased scientist was buried at the Honour Alley No 1.

 Memory about Jalal Alivev, who has lived a meaningful lifewill always live in hearts of those who knew him.
