Main directions of activity
- Collection, reproduction, enrichment of the collection, description, assessment of economic performance and efficient use in breeding and food sectors of genetic resources in situations on-farm/in-situ subtropical fruit crops and grapes prevalent in the country;
- Definition of areas and collection of varieties and forms and subtropical fruit crops, common in the country;
- Reproduction with the aim of restoring and conservation of genetic resources in the collections and subtropical fruit crops collected during expeditions;
- Study and Evaluation biomorphological features cultivars and forms and subtropical fruit crops cultivated in gene pool gardens.
Main scientific results
- Have been laid new and are enriched gene pool collection and subtropical fruit crops, including ampelographic collection of grapes. Copied and put into a collection of over 5000 pieces of planting materials, cultivars and their wild relatives, fruit and berry crops. To enrich the collection of grapes in the country with industrial varieties were introduced first 6 grades (Matilde, Michele Palieri, Italia, Malvasia aromatica, Malvasia rosa, Malvasia fina) from Italy and two varieties (Crimson sedles, Emperor) of the United States.
- Investigated and the comparative evaluation of biological characteristics and economic indicators more than 400 varieties and forms and subtropical fruit crops cultivated in the gene pool of our institute collections. Identified varieties and forms with positive bioeconomic indicators and bio recommendations for implementing them into production.
- Were selected new perspective form (2 figs (Shalala and Bol incir) and 3 grapes (Alinja, Nakhichevan's Muscat, Nargizi) with productive plants, large fruits, rich in biologically active materials, resistant to diseases and pests, and was presented the State Commission for Testing and protection of selection achievements.
- Passport data samples of grapes grown in the collections of our institute was included European Central Database and directory to search "Vitis".
- During the last 5 years employees of laboratory published 3 books (1.“Caucasus and Northen Black Sea Region Ampelography”, (Viticulture and winemaking of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan: native varieties of grepvine. p 85-168) Edited by D.Maghradze et al. “Vitis” Journal of Grapevine Research, JKI-Julius Kühn Institut, Germany, 2012, 485 p.; 2.“The Mediterrian Genetic Code - Grepvine and Olive”.
