Genetic Resources Institute (GRI) of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has hosted a seminar titled “CRISPR-Cas9 Genome Editing”. Scientific researcher of Human Resources Group of Department on Biotechnology of the institute Khagani Eynullazadeh addressed the seminar.
He highlighted that CRISPR-Cas9 GenomeEditing system is one of the great discoveries in the molecular genetics during last years. The system is based on the protection mechanism, which bacterias use agaist virusesattacking them.
Bacterias, using this mechanism, recognizes genes of viruses entering their cytoplasm and separates viruses through cutting their RNA’s with molecular presicion.
Modern molecular genetic researches show that it is possible to substitute mutated genes in any cell, including the human cell, with normal genesvia CRISPR-Cas9 mechanism modification.
Khagani Eynullazadeh noted that this method is presently used both for substitution of mutated genes with normal genes and creation of new cell lines through various genetic modifications in plant, animal and human cells. One of the main perspectives of this method is elimination of all genetic shortcomings in the human embrion after insemination and grow genetically sound individuals. Khagani Eynullazadeh emphasized that clinical scientific researches aimed at treatment of a number of deceases (hemoglobinopathy, AIDS, various cancer types, etc. ) are carried out in adult persons through use of this method.
Researcher Eynullazadeh highlighted that he held reseach work on the yeast fungus at the US University of Nebraska from August 8 till November 17, 2016 by using this method, mastered this methodology and plans to continue this research at the GRI of ANAS.
At the end, participats of the seminar praised the seminar, which was followed by discussion of various issues.
