Seminar was held at the Shaki Scientific Research Base of the Genetic Resources Institute
On September 29, 2026, a scientific and practical field seminar on “Conservation, Study, Restoration, Propagation, and Use in Breeding of the Genetic Resources of Cultivated and Wild Ancestors of Fruit Crops” was held at the experimental field of the Shaki Scientific Research Base of the Genetic Resources Institute.
The seminar was attended by staff members, teachers, and students from Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, the Plant Gene Pool Department of the Shaki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS, the Sericulture and Crop Production Faculty of the Shaki State Vocational Education Center, and the Shaki State Agrarian Development Center.
Coshgun Mammadov, PhD in Biology and Head of the Shaki Scientific Research Base, provided information on the scientific research conducted at the base and the activities carried out to conserve the genetic resources of fruit crops.
The seminar highlighted the importance of conserving the genetic resources of fruit crops, identifying valuable genotypes and safeguarding them, as well as utilizing these genetic resources in future breeding programs.
Following the presentations, participants visited the experimental field and exchanged views on the genetic diversity of fruit crops, their conservation, and their use in breeding programs.
The seminar aimed to facilitate the exchange of scientific knowledge on the conservation, study, and sustainable use of fruit crop genetic resources, as well as to strengthen cooperation among scientific and educational institutions working in this field.
